Location

We are based in Bulgaria, an hour South-West of the capital Sofia, in a 'suburb' (called a 'mahala' in Bulgarian) of a village with a lot of abandoned houses and empty plots, suitable for purchasing and populating. This way we can form a community within the same physical area and take advantage of the infrastructure, without purchasing a huge plot of land and creating the infrastructure from scratch. There is a lot of breathability among the different plots with houses, as there is farming land in between them, which is currently being worked in conventional ways, but there is an opportunity to purchase the land and do our own community farming there.

Although this suburb is only a few minutes away from the main village road and plaza, being there creates the impression that one is in a remote location. There are beautiful views of the surrounding hills, the Pchelina dam and Rila Mountains. Most of the plots are south-facing.

We don't want to mention the name of the village here, as we don't want everyone finding out what we're up to and real estate prices skyrocketing.

The nearest towns to where we are located are Batanovtsi and Radomir.

We had a list of requirements for the location we wanted and we looked for a few years before we found this land! One of the requirements we had was to have something that needs cleaning up. And that's Pchelina Dam. We are a couple of kilometers from it. It's a big, beautiful dam, but it's very polluted with heavy metals at its bottom and unclean smelly water. We hope to create a few floating islands to purify the water and provide a sheltered habitat for the birds, and we are looking for ways to see what we can do about the heavy metals at the bottom.
